Little League

My Saturdays as on late have been spent balancing homework, tennis and Little League. And no, I am not on a Little League team, although secretly, I'd LOVE to be on one. My little cousin is on a team though and it is his team that I have religiously been routing for the last three Saturdays in a row! His team (of 9 & 10 yr olds) is AWESOME! They are undefeated! They are so good I swear one time they got a triple play! Meaning they took out three players at once w/one play. It was amazing! Unfortunately, my little cousin is probably the worst on his team. Or at the very least, second worst. I truly think it is because he is really not very athletic. I mean, he tries... and tries, but ultimately, his ability is just not there. So it's sort of a mixed blessing he's young. On one hand, he can still enjoy participating even though he is not very good, but as he gets older teams are not going to want him. Such is life. It was a little heart-breaking though when he came up to me on Saturday and said, "I'm not very good Aunt Ari." (He calls me "Aunt" even tho I'm not technically an aunt of his.) I told him that it is okay and so long as he keeps trying he will get better (probably not true). I also said that baseball is a team sport and that at this point his team is perfect and to feel proud of that!

At every game, my heart pings a little because I can't wait until I am at my own son/daughter's Little League game. Watching him/her go up to the plate or throwing one to first base. It is at those moments that my desire to be a wife and mom just go blazing out of control. At least I know what I have to look forward to, right?? There's always that.

there is a discussion with my (former) roomate whether or not baseball is an actual sport. his argument is no based on the fact that you can chew tobacco and still play.

i would also like to root for your little cousin and all the outfield daisy pickers like myself. i was excellent at bunting and was always last on the roster.

just remind him that there are a ton of sports out there and he's probably amazing at one of them. me:floor hockey you:fooseball
