Here's how it all went down...

We woke up Christmas Eve with a list of things to do. I had to make the monkey bread for Christmas Day (mmmmm, monkey bread) and some pecan praline guys for the fam. Friday was going to his parents' house to grab some of my gifts that weren't under the tree yet because I'm "too sneaky". After baking all afternoon, I checked the time and realized I needed to jump in the shower already.

As I was getting out, I heard the front door close. Friday was back home. I got out, wrapped myself in a towel and walked out of the bathroom to see a BEAUTIFUL arrangement of red roses sitting on the hallway bookshelf. I gasped in surprise and heard the sweet voice of my honey say "Happy Anniversary!"

You see, Friday and I are the kind of couple who celebrate the 24th of every month as that is the anniversary of our first date and when we pretty much fell in love. So December 24th marked our 16th month anniversary. Hence why I still was not clued in as to what was about to happen. I'm walking back and forth from the bathroom and the kitchen checking on my stuff when Friday starts buggin' me to "go get dressed already". Which he had a point, it was getting later in the day and we still had a stop to make before heading to my cousin's house for Christmas Eve dinner.

I grabbed my jeans a long-sleeve tshirt and proceeded to get dressed. I sat down to put on some socks and Friday joined me on the bed. He took my hand and proceeded to tell me how much he loves me and how from the moment we met that he knew he was destined to love me forever. He told me all the sweet gooey stuff that was in his heart and I told him how I felt. As we talked we both started to cry. Not sad tears, but lovely tears. The kind that are shed only when you are overwhelmed with emotion that your body has to release somehow and it chooses to do so with tears. We sat there crying, smooching, holding each other and then slowly he slid onto the floor in front of me, putting his head on my lap. We sat there for a few seconds holding each other and then out of nowhere, he looks up, slides a small black box in front of me and while opening it, asks "Will you marry me?"

Sobbing, I could only say over and over again, "Of course I will. Of course I will."

After he slid this insanely beautiful and sparkly ring on my left hand, we both stood up together, still crying and hugged tighter than ever before. He then told me that he had bought the ring over a week a half earlier and that he had even spoken to my parents. Which, of course, made me cry all over again. We both took a step back and reached for our phones, instantly calling our mothers.

Since that moment, we had the pleasure of sharing this wonderful news with all of our family and friends.

That day, I was truly given the best Christmas present ever.

Happy New Year everyone!
