Kelly Clarkson was in town recently for the opening of the new Microsoft store. As a part of the grand opening they had said that the first 100 people in line at their store and willing to stay overnight would get meet and greet passes to see Kelly. I planned over a month in advance to be there and to be one of the first 100.
So after work Friday I changed into some more appropriate clothing, grabbed a chair, my jacket and backpack of goodies (Red Bull, included) and headed to the location of the line/overnight. The only rules were these:
1. No tents.
2. No sleeping bags.
3. The line starts at 9:30pm.
When I got there at 7pm, I was told that if security saw me standing in the vicinity I would be asked to go to the end of the line (once it formed). So like a good girl, I made myself scarce. I was not about to take any chances. Well, as it got closer to 9:30pm, I saw more and more people arrive. Most of them were congregated near the line area; so I quickly joined suit. At least 2-3 times a handful of security officers requested (forcefully) that we move back towards the parking lot. So, again, I followed the rules. Unfortunately, not everyone else did and as a result, they were picked to be the first 100. I was beyond upset at this point. It became even worse when due to my location I was pushed even further to the back of the line.
I quickly realized what a scam I had gotten myself into and by 10:00pm, I had had enough... so I left.
All in all it was a busted night - and the whole experience even turned me off from coming back the following day to even just listen to Kelly.
I think this experience also speaks to my personality (ever heard of Myers-Briggs? - I'm classified as "ESTJ".).
Nevertheless - one thing I will say - I will never again stand in line for over 3+ hours, let alone all night long, solo. That was no bueno.
