I'm a sucker for a cute smile

Played a bit of hooky this weekend.

And no, that is not a euphemism for turning tricks. I called in *cough* sick at the answering service.

Basically, a night of free barbecue and beer was too much to deny myself and so off I went with close friends to the SA Rodeo Kick-off barbecue Competition.

Let's just say, I had a very nice time.

I tried to explain what it felt like to The Roommate (she was there too, btw)... and the best I could do, was that it reminded me of all the frat parties I would go to back at the ol' alma mater. Tons of guys, cowboy boots, beer, music, and everybody standing around figuring out who there were going to go home with afterwards. Of course, now that we're older, the difference is that at least half the people there are married. So chances are they are probably going home with their S.O.'s. Which is as it should be. And I got NO problems with that.

This particular time I did manage to keep control of my drinkage. And left the event with only the slightest of buzzes. Course, this was over the course of something around 7 hours of straight drinking and shooting the shit, but that's neither here nor there. One thing I do have a problem with - or so I realized - is that I hate to lose a challenge. You see as we were walking away from a particular group of guys, one of them chastised me for not finishing my beer (hey, it was warmish!). So I took my friend's beer and proceeded to chug the majority of it down. You know, just to prove a point. Yeah. The point is that I'm an idiot and can't walk away from a challenge. It's quite silly - but hey, that's just the kinda gal I am. Besides, nothing is sexier than watching a woman chug beer. Nothing. (Riiiiiiiiight.)

Anyway. As we all know any good rodeo has a carnival. This was no exception. This particular night, The Roommate and I both walked away with some very cute (and of course, expensive) stuffed prizes. My prize is a stuffed wrinkly-faced dog. Whom I named my "Lonestar". After the brand of (free) beer I consumed most of the night.

All in all, fun times were had and I'm definitely going back next year.

I always loved the SA Rodeo as a kid. I remember going to the Cowboy breakfast in high school, so they still have that?

Love the new blog look BTW.

Thank you!

And yes, they still have the Cowboy Breakfast. I've actually never been. I was supposed to go two different times and at the last minute chose sleep over Breakfast.
