I have a few guilty pleasures ... I won't go into all of them tonight, but I will share one of my most recent. Reality television. Oh, no, not all of it. In fact, if I think about it - most reality shows just suck me in usually for a couple of episodes here or there. There have only been 2 or 3 shows that I have made it a point to catch ALL of them. American Idol (seasons 1, 3, & 4 only - heh, only, riiiiiight), the occasional Real World season, and now Laguna Beach.
Holy shit, I LOVE me some Laguna Beach. I realize (kinda) that it's mostly staged and complete bullshit - but I still love that damn show (trash). I'm not sure entirely what the attraction is - but I admit it's there.
I enjoy watching the drama of Jessica, Jason, and Alex M.
Jason is adorable (yikes, I think an 18 year old is cute!!!!) and is OBVIOUSLY a player. Only he is one of the WORST types of players. The kind who instead of just being a player insists on dragging a girlfriend into it. So yeah, he has to have the constant companionship of a gf - but still likes to have his little extra-curricular activities on the side. Sort of a "having your cake and eating it too" thang (Ya know, I never got that particular cliche - I mean who wouldn't want to eat their cake?. Anyway.). But he is just too adorable. So I don't even mind so much that he's a dog (dog as in "male-pig", not as in "ugly like a...").
Then there is the other love triangle. Well, allegedly. It's just an all around screwed up situation.
This would be LC, Kristin, and Stephen. Awww, another cutie (Stephen). Too bad he is the "nice guy" who can't make up his damn mind. He and Kristin were together off and on for a couple of years - then broke it off when he went off to college. In the meantime he is good friends w/LC. And poor LC, she is in love with him. Of course, she plays it off - "happy just being his best friend" (yeah, right!). Now, I do genuinely believe this guy cares for LC. I just think that he can't make up his damn mind. Ironically, Kristin is basically playing w/his head - acting very cute and flirty, but behind his back calling him pathetic and a loser for not moving on. In the meantime, Stephen keeps LC on "the line" w/flowers and attention. Lying to her about his interest in Kristin.
Like I said - I have no doubt Stephen does in fact care for LC (in his own way), but I HATE that he strings her along. The kid HAS GOT TO KNOW she's crazy about him. And if he has no intention of being w/her (as in coupledom) he really should just tell her rather than lead her along like he does. I get it - you're friends... it's hard to hurt someone you care about. But no girl/woman deserves to be strung along. I mean - it hurts either way. You may as well be honest (bluntly so, if necessary) so she can have (and will take) the opportunity to find someone else who will appreciate her for the person she is... and not just be "second prize" or the "backup". Even if the attention is flattering - you gotta just let her go.
Well, as you can see, I am FAR too wrapped up in this damn show - but like w/any show I get sucked into - it's usually because I find SOME way to connect with it.
Am I saying something here w/out actually saying something? I don't know... what do YOU think?
*wink*
