And the answer is...

Someone asked me the other day why I named my blog after the Oscar Mayer bologna song. At the time I think I answered with something as clever as "cause I like weenies/bologna". But afterwards, I sat in bed (where I do my most/best thinking - amongst other things) thinking about why I named it Oscar.

Then I remembered that the first few days, my blog was entitled "Go Blog Yourself". Sort of an homage to the phrase "Go Fuck Yourself". Only inserting "Blog" for "Fuck" (duh). This was when I thought "Blog" could be the next "Smurf".

If you have a blank look on your face, then you must not remember the greatest cartoon ever (well, aside from "The Muppet Babies" and "Doug"), "The Smurfs". The long-standing joke is that the word "Smurf" was used for everything. You'd hear things like "that's Smurftastic" and "for Smurfizzle my nizzle".

So because of that, I tried to make the word "blog" synonymous with "Smurf"... but then as I did several different blog searches, I found out that there were a lot of blogs with the same title. Instead of being "cool and original" I was just like everyone else. And well, that just wasn't up to my smurf standards.

And back to the drawing board I went.

Well, one day I was sitting at my desk, looking at my blog and the Oscar Mayer jingle popped into my head. And I'm SURE I wasn't eating any bologna at the time, especially since I think bologna tastes like smurf (ass).

Anyway, from that random jingle that just popped into my head, hence came "My Blog has a first name, it's O-S-C-A-R." And now, here we are, over 300 posts (daaaaaaamn!) and about 2-3 readers (okay, maybe a FEW more than that) later - OSCAR lives and breathes.

And for those unfamiliar with the jingle, here is MY version:

My blog has a first name, it's O-S-C-A-R.
My blog has a second name, it's M-A-Y-E-R.
Oh, I love to read it everyday, and if you ask me why, I'll say,
"'Cause Oscar Mayer has a way with A-R-I-A-N-N-A."
