When it rains...

Oh hell. I went and jinxed myself yesterday.

Yesterday (Tropical Storm) "Erin" hit... turning San Antonio (like the whole city) into a water park.

And if you're thinking "WOO! Water park! YAY!", you can go ahead and stop reading my blog. Because I don't need idiots reading my blog.

This was not a cool thing, y'all.

The area of town I work in is essentially a huge ass water ditch. It is designed for holding onto water whenever torrential rain hits, causing major flooding and damages. That being the case, campus was closing early. I braved the waters and BARELY made it out of the area. The rain was so bad I (the speed demon extraordinaire) was driving about 30 mph on the highway trying to make my way home.

At the time I was just happy my little Gino had made it off Hwy 16... I remember looking up in my rear view mirror and seeing this pickup heading straight for me, going really fast and clearly fish-tailing in the rain. I tensed up... praying it would miss me.

It didn't.

And this happened to my beautiful 5.5 month old car.

A tragedy for sure. Fortunately, I am okay. Alas, I am so used to car accidents at this point, I feel like I could do all the "post accident" stuff in my sleep. You know, contact the insurance company, find a body shop, arrange for a rental, etc.

So I'm sitting in my car, on the highway, freaked out. It's POURING. And I have to get out in it. There ended up being 4 cars in the accident. A big rig included. Three cop cars got involved. I was home about an hour and a half later, completely soaked.

My dad was there with me through most of it (I called him) and Mom met me at the apartment afterwards. She had a very good, strong cry when she saw me. I have not afforded myself that luxury just yet. Maybe later tonight. Maybe not at all. I don't know yet. In any case... that was my Thursday.

Oddly enough I DID say the other day that I felt like something bad was about to happen... I just never thought it might be something like this.

I was reading a post from another Texan who was talking about a big accident involving a semi and cop cars. WTF? How do you people drive you there? :)

I heard of this storm and thought of you.
Shitty about Gino, but I'm glad you're okay. He'll be back to perfect soon enough.

Ohmygosh, that's so scarey - seeing it coming straight for ya. Is that the rear? I mean, I hope the guy's covered....or the others behind him. Glad you're all right though. Poor Gino.

YIPES! So did I ever tell you about the time I decided to drive my car into wait-high water? YEP. Lots o fun, let me tell ya. But it was at the top of a HILL! I was still telling myself "it's a lot of water, but it's a hill for gosh sakes!" (this is pre-sailor mouth) when my car decided to start floating back down the hill. At this point I waded to the curb and walked the 15 feet to my house (this was at the intersection by my parents house...) The brilliant part was we just turned on the panic lights (or whatever they're called) and then left the car until the sun came and worked it's magic. So...now that I've completely bypassed the horrifying moment you had before the additional game of "catch my breath between sobs, recoup from the half-coronary from hearing the terrible noise car-on-car aggression makes, and then somehow manage to soak up more rain than the asphalt did." I haven't met this hot rod Gino yet, but if he protects you from projectile vehicles, I love him already! Glad you're safe.
