Anyone else remember these neato-mosquito books? No? Not of YOUR generation. Well, you missed out, my friend!
These literary pre-teen bibles would give its reader an opportunity to choose the outcome of the story. And with a simple "If you think Jack's journey takes him to Saturn TURN TO PAGE 63." or "If you think Jack's journey ends here and he heads back home TURN TO PAGE 45." you were magically delivered to a unique and amazing ending (or even better the story just kept going).
Oh man, I had a monster collection of these.
The only way I could get through them was by placing each finger as a "bookmark" in the pages, so that I could quickly go back to the previous intersection once one particular string of storyline had ended. There would be times when I would have at least 6-7 fingers posing as bookmarks all at once.
I wonder if anyone else would do that too?
(Or am I all alone in this strange behavior...
*ALL BY MYSELF... DON'T WANNA BE... ALL BY MYSELF... ANYMOOOOOORE!*
Okay, I've stopped singing. Have you?)
Course, I have NO clue where they are now. Probably buried in a box in my parents' garage along w/all the other wonders of yester-year. Like Mad-Libs and my very colorful PickUp Stix collection. And who could forget the "Sweet Valley High/Twins" or "The Babysitters Club" series.
Yikes, I was a book-reading dork!
Well, I, uhm, also like smoked pot and rode a skateboard and stuff in middle school.
You know... Damn the Man type crap.
Okay, I didn't really.
But I was friends w/peeps who did. Thereby being "cool" by association.
Damn. Okay, fine, so I wasn't friends w/peeps who did either... BUT one thing I REALLY did do was start a shoving match in school w/my ex-BFF at the time. We even got KP duty.
I'm such a rebel.

I was a total book-reading dork, too, and read all of those books. And I didn't understand skaters, and I didn't know anyone who smoked pot because I was way too busy reading and having sleepovers and going to the mall to pay attention. We're dorks and we're proud!
