Sad news

So yesterday, I was woke up to a text message "Lance G from Madison died in Iraq yesterday". Oh man.

That REALLY sucks.

I wasn't really friends with Lance. In fact, I barely knew him. Yes, we went to middle and HS together, but that was along with 400 other kids. Big deal. But the thing is, he dated my best friend during our college years. And she moved to Dallas over a year ago, so the chances of her knowing about it were slim to none.

This isn't the first time I've had to called my best friend and tell her that someone we know has been killed. I mean, we're only 26 years old and now it's up to two. It's one thing when it's your elderly relative and they've been sick for a while, but a whole other thing when it's someone your age that you remember growing up alongside.

She was a bit in shock. Unfortunately, I didn't have any specifics to tell her. So when she called me back an hour later after finding out the whole story, needless to say she was a mess.

The whole situation is so messed up, I don't even know what to make of it. All I can say is - to all the men and women serving our country... thank you. I may not agree completely with the reason you are there, but I thank you for it and I wish you all a safe return to your homes and families.
